PENNY continues her rise with dreampop jam ‘Ur Girl’s Fine’

Huddersfield based singer-songwriter PENNY returns with her dream-like new single ‘Ur Girl’s Fine’, accompanied by a lo-fi homemade video.

“When I wrote Ur Girl’s Fine, I was well and truly trapped in a toxic and abusive environment, and the song was just a way for me to romanticize the whole situation; a way to convince myself it was all normal and fine,” Explains PENNY. “I feel sorry for the girl who wrote this song back then, but I also feel so proud of how much she’s grown and changed. Amongst all the bad stuff, Ur Girl’s Fine is the first song that I was lucky enough to work with Will Serfas on, and it seems to have been the OST for a lot of amazing memories with my friends. These days, I like to sing this song as a love note to myself, and to those pals who’ve been there for those sweet, sweet memories.”

PENNY created the video as an ode to the Northern Quarter family in Huddersfield. The grassroots bar and music venue plays an intrinsic part in the local scene, hosting bands and artists from the region long before they start touring nationally. “Northern Quarter is my safe place. I worked there when I got back from Uni. I had never really been in a big, close friendship group before until I met people there – I didn’t have to explain my views, or why things are right and wrong.”

Speaking about the video, PENNY said:  “I wanted the video I produced for Ur Girl’s Fine to represent the tight knit community I’m so lucky to be involved in. Along with my family, my friends really helped me to get back to the playful, loving person I once used to be. It’s pretty much a cosy love-letter to my gorgeous pals to say thanks for being so accepting and lovely <3”
