Pete Beat opens up about mental health in new single ‘Another Galaxy’

Pete Beat just released a refreshing single titled ‘Another Galaxy’ where he openly talks about mental struggles and being unable to solve other people’s problems. We’re loving this new era where artists are not afraid to talk about such topics. The musician calls himself an adventurer in the space of all possible sounds making weird music for a weird age.

In this new release, Pete Beat shares his involuntary stay in a psychiatric hospital in 2010 where he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Heavy topic… but with groove! Pete aims to reduce the stigma around schizophrenia and break all (wrong) stereotypes about the illness. Pete knows that there is some personal risk in talking openly about this diagnosis, due to the stigma but says “this adds more of a reason to do it, and the time seems right, and I feel happy and confident in my life, so I’m going to talk about it.”

The singer is also an example of how music can be cathartic and help against an illness. Indeed, Pete credits music and songwriting with literally saving his life, and helping to deal with the issues which led to the psychotic breakdowns. For Him, the medication and therapy (and also probably music?) eliminated the symptoms and he hasn’t had any psychosis symptoms since 2010. Though, everyone is different and it is ok not to be okay.

This is the opening single from Pete Beat’s 4th album The Strange Museum set to release in April 2023.
