Pharaoh Santana has spent the last 7 years attempting to make himself LA’s new chief materialistic hedonist, and ‘Playboy’ brings him one step closer to achieving this. With flows reminiscent of Drake, Pharaoh Santana clearly has his finger on the pulse but still achieves a unique style with his playful lyrics. These lyrics are packed full of contemporary references ranging from his own mother to Christopher Nolan.
The relaxed delivery is matched by the beat, which is laid back in its approach but still potent enough to move the track forward energetically. Elements of trap are more apparent in the beat than the flow, with high-hats used frequently, showing again Pharaoh Santana’s awareness and accessibility.
All this means it is no surprise that he already finds himself frequenting radio A-lists in the USA and across Europe. The personality driven lyrics lend themselves to relatability, while maintaining a relevant and funny social commentary, all while the beat matches this by being laid back yet enticing. Pharaoh Santana is going from strength to strength and 2021 is going to be an important year for them, starting off in the best way possible.
