Following on from the huge love she received for her previous single ‘Eighteen’, which racked up tens of thousands of streams online as well as featuring on Canadian TV stations Global TV and City TV, Canadian singer and songwriter Julianna Laine now returns with the new video for her latest upbeat offering ‘Where Did All My Friends Go’.
As an ode to modern relationships and the growing distance that social media is putting on us all, ‘Where Did All My Friends Go’ looks to blend a serious and provocative subject with a bright and uplifting aesthetic. Co-produced by Ethan Burke (who also directed the new video) alongside the singer, and with her own distinct bedroom-pop qualities layered heavily throughout this new release, she looks to fill our hearts and our minds with a wonderfully bright and beaming summer offering.
Speaking about her new release, Julianna said, “This song is a commentary on modern friendships, relationships and mental health. These days, especially with social distancing there can be a weird dynamic of not knowing what your friends are thinking. It’s easy to judge at the surface level, but you never know what someone else might be feeling. People say things like ‘we should catch up’ and they don’t mean it or ‘everything is fine’ and it’s not always fine. The song itself sort of puts a fake persona. It might sound like a ‘bop’, but then you listen a little closer.”
