Erik Odsell’s new album, titled ‘Human,’ is easily one of the best albums of the year. Despite being released a couple of months ago, I am still playing it heavily. Besides the polished production and catchy song construction, it is Erik’s signature songwriting that gives this project its powerful legs. It is the deep meaning of his lyrics that make this album so impressive and give it the repeatability that escapes so many albums.
A great example of this is standout track ‘Getaway Car.’ The lyrics are about living life the way you please. It is about doing whatever you want at your own pace and living with no regrets. The song is relentlessly upbeat and injects nothing but good feelings into the track.
The most touching lyrics on the album belong to ‘The Music.’ This song reflects on simpler times. Erik specifically thinks back on a time when all he had to worry about was the music and getting lost in it. On a deeper level, it talks about how we as grown-ups usually end up compromising ourselves for the sake of taking care of our families. It is a truly touching song.
For lyrics that inspire and are instantly relatable, I look no further than Erik Odsell. He is a truly phenomenal artist. Prepare to be wowed.
