Psyence began as any other band does – a collective of school friends that decided to merge their musical abilities together. All from the working-class background of the Potteries, in Staffordshire, West Midlands, the music scene around them was rock-heavy, meaning that they’ve been refining their music palette and influences for quite some years. Unable to tour for most of 2021, Psyence turned their attention to the studio and expanding their sound – and their effort is clear to hear.
Their latest single ‘NOBODY UNDERSTANDS’ is an alternative banger. Drums thud through the mix, reverberating energy around the track. Guitar soaked in overdrive lie on top, creating a distorted wall of noise. The vocals are at the forefront of the mix, raw, passionate and lyrically reflects the band’s personal struggles.
Psyence reveal that: “This song is about mental health and having a daily battle with yourself, nobody will really ever understand what’s going on inside yer head apart from you. You’ve gone full circle so it’s time to break the cycle.”
Psyence have also announced a new album launch event at the Sugarmill in Stoke on 7th October and play at the Shiine Festival in Minehead on 13th November. Other dates will be added soon. With an infamous live show, this is one not to miss.
