Purity Ring celebrate 5 years since their debut with new song ‘Asido’

Experimental pop duo, Purity Ring, are hard at work on their third album, the follow up to 2015’s Another Eternity. Despite being in the throes of creation, the Canadians have taken the time to reflect on their career so far and be thankful for their fans. Today marks exactly five years since their excellent debut album Shrines, and as a sort of anniversary present to themselves and fans alike they have released a new track entitled ‘Asido‘.

As to what the song’s about, singer Megan James was as inscrutable as ever, saying “I imagine a tractor digging graves, I imagine crying blood, and I imagine eggs being swept away in it.”

‘Asido’ continues Purity Ring’s forte for matching a deep low-end with intricate percussion and beguiling vocals. The song comes accompanied by a lyric video, with the words written by Megan’s grandmother and animation by Purity Ring’s consistent collaborator Tallulah Fontaine, who traced the singer walking and falling into a spectral image.
