Rhett Repko’s writing has seen him traverse the full spectrum of guitar-driven music. Global chart highlights and television spots have both served to broaden his fanbase, but listeners are kept by his diverse discography. Rhett is also working with established industry professionals, has toured the US and, in his early career, achieved a degree in music.
Rhett’s latest single, ‘How Cold’, speaks to being mesmerised by the romantically dangerous, drawn into the drama, and captivated by the balance between hurt and charm. He explains,
“With ‘How Cold’, I was talking about that kind of girl that’s super cold to everyone and you know if you get close to her then she’s going to break your heart. You’ve heard the stories, you’ve seen the social media posts, but you don’t care – you’re too enticed and you want to give it a chance. Soon after, you know you’re going down, you’re attached and she’s going to walk away.”
Tinged with distorted vibrance, the track balances raw rock energy with infectious hooks. The firm back beat, graceful guitar tones and subtle electronic pulses all come together to start the track with a bounce of indie. Quickly, the fire spreads into a heavier, more anthemic soundscape, the counter melodies flying through guitar licks whilst the vocal layers find their bite. As heartless as this thematic love, he finds himself performing with a harsh fuzz.
“I wanted the record to be more punky sounding,” Rhett continues, “an authentic straight up rock song. I wanted it to sound like something a band would play in a tiny club in NYC in the 70’s, like the Ramones but produced for a modern world.”
