RUNNER release the blooming shoegaze of ‘Distance’

Dublin-based outfit Runner has returned with the release of their second single, after making an impact with ‘View’ at the top of the year. The follow-up, ‘Distance’, is a brooding cut that leans into some shoegaze-inspired instincts with Dan Doherty (Mazzy Star, Fontaines D.C.) at the production helm.

Warming, but dark and gritty, there are flashes of Irish post-punk amongst the 90s nostalgia. Vocals are understated, guitars create a wall of destructive sparkle, falling away before blooming into enticing indie passion. Shifts of light with earworm melodies and an exhilarating nature, it’s atmospheric, but tempered with energy.

The band speak about the single’s background,  “Recording this song was tough for us as a group as a lot of unneeded stress in our daily lives pushed the release out but we are very excited to show our other avenues of music that we can tap into, Distance is leaning more to our alternative and shoegazey sound which we want to show our listeners. Very excited for people to hear us getting a little more experimental.”

Following their debut acclaim from respected outlets across the UK and Ireland, the potential is clearly there for a bold new voice to help carve the future. So stay tuned.
