Samskara Rad releases the delicate new single ‘Only Fan’

Behind the bright and colourful hip hop of Samskara Rad is Simon Marroco, whose initial moment in the spotlight came as part of prog-punk outfit The Mood, signed in Melbourne in the ‘80s. When the band came to a close, Simon opened St.Kilda Yoga School, leading to a quarter-century hiatus from music. Now returning under the Samskara Rad moniker, he has transformed his influences and production.

The latest release has now arrived as the dreamy single ‘Only Fan’. Taking Samskara’s most successful track to date, ‘Biggest Fan’, and delicately building a new atmosphere around it, Samskara brings together distant plucky synths, and rich, twinkling pads. The delicate trap drums tie the track together, as the soft arpeggiated melodies fill the space between the calm and velvety vocals. It’s enticing to see an alternate side to the Samskara production, with a vivid result.

Samskara shares, “A dreamy lullaby bubblegum version of Biggest Fan. For me, it’s hard to do slower-paced songs, as I’m always in the minute and driven by energy. So, writing Only Fan taught me how to create emptiness and space in a song and still be energetic, but with a different emotional vibe.”
