Cork songwriter Sarah Hickey has steadily built a reputation for subtle performances with affecting emotional sentiment. Reflective, thoughtful and honest, her indie-folk sentiments and occasional pop melodies come together to deliver a masterclass in powerful soundscapes through gentle arrangements.
Now, in the culmination of years of songwriting, Sarah has finally unveiled Fastener, a project of storytelling and graceful performances. The warmth of each vocal tone becomes more and more captivating as time goes on. Steadily, Sarah immerses you in her world, inviting you to journey further, delighting in its introspection.
The plucky acoustic guitars, distant wind instruments, swelling synths and homely pianos combine to make the sonics a vast tapestry, but never overpowering for the listener. A showcase of her own emotional maturity, the narrative moves through self-appreciation and growth, passing on this wisdom to the listener. It’s a uniquely designed but beautifully familiar listen.
Explaining the album in her own words, Sarah adds, “‘Fastener is a collection of songs I wrote based on my personal experiences and stories that have inspired me. It combines elements of folk, rock, and pop, drawing inspiration from countless artists and bands I’ve loved for years. Recording this album has been so wonderful and exciting. I worked with some brilliant and lovely people and I am so grateful for their time and talent.”
