About STARMAPS
STARMAPS is an electronic indie act based on opposite sides of the world. Formed in 2022 by Adelaide based singer / guitarist songwriter Dan Gaskin and London based DJ / producer Rachel Ho, the duo have been working across different time zones and Whatsapp messages to create a repertoire of electronic-fueled melodic pop songs. Teaming up with Italian producer, Laps, and American producer, John DeMichele, STARMAPS, have been working on an album due for release in 2024. After a well received debut single release in July with ‘This Is Love’ and putting a live band together for several Australian live shows, STARMAPS are excited to drop their follow up single, ‘Somebody Say Something‘, which showcases the depth in the duo’s song writing.
About ‘Somebody Say Something’
With layers of swirling arpeggio synths, melodic guitars, trap influenced beats and heartfelt vocals, STARMAPS second single Somebody Say Something showcases the duo’s depth in songwriting. Written amid lockdown, lyrically the song captures longing, loneliness and isolation when words can mean so much, but pale in comparison to touch. Time alone can be both a wish and a curse.
“The song was written in the winter depth of lockdown, when things were pretty bleak, particularly in London. I had spent time layering up a bunch of synth sounds trying to create a vibe that captured that feeling of being isolated & oppressed, then messaged it to Dan and he came up with the vocals expressing the loneliness we all felt.”
