Atlanta based singer-songwriter Ci Majr has revealed her latest addictive indie-pop single, casting a much needed dose of sonic sunshine upon an especially grey January. ‘Summer Drug’ pairs flirtatious, candid lyricism with playful productions. A driving bassline, shimmering pop melodies and dynamic beats build towards the upbeat dance chorus, and then the song touches on a moment of vulnerability in the bridge, emphasized by soaring strings and tender keys. ‘Summer Drug’ offers the perfect post-breakup, whirlwind romance pop anthem.
Speaking of her new release, Ci Majr explains: “Lyrically the inspiration was being in a place where you basically refuse to make yourself romantically vulnerable even though you’ve met a person who has boyfriend/girlfriend potential. I think a lot of us have been in a place where we’ve been hurt from a relationship and have a hard time opening up again, so even when a good thing comes around you keep them at an arm’s length to keep yourself from getting hurt. So this song is saying ‘yes, you can absolutely satisfy my physical needs but we’re not taking it further than that’; likening ‘using’ someone for their body just like you’d use a drug of some sort.”
Ci Majr emerged onto the scene in 2016 with her debut single ‘#CuffinSZN’, which featured on Spotify’s coveted ‘Fresh Finds’ playlist. Her most recent single ‘Wiggle Room’, a collaboration with DJ and producer Benji Reyes, has accumulated over 400,000 streams. Ci Majr has now joined forces with UK instrumentalist and producer Féz for the glistening potential hit ‘Summer Drug’.
