Since their emergence in 2018, Cork trio The Drive. have built a name for themselves as serious competitors in the alt-rock scene of their home city. Selling out headliners at the likes of The Grand Social in Dublin and Cyprus Avenue in Cork and supporting fellow rising stars The K’s and The Blue Stones, the band have drawn comparisons to the likes of IDLES and Fontaines D.C. On top of this, they’ve caught the ears of Spotify tastemakers with slots on ‘Alternative Ireland’ and ‘melomania.’ playlists.
Their latest single ‘living is easy.’ embarks on a journey through a dark haze, filling the atmosphere with vast drum rhythms and screaming riffs, led through the shadows by a distant, melancholic vocal. Building a relentless tension cut by quick bursts of agonised explosions, the grittiness throughout is almost hypnotic, with rhythms and melodies crossing over one another with mournful pessimism and a soft candlelit glow. Aggressive in essence but poetic in performance the roaring distortion truly tears through the listener.
The band shares a comment, “’living is easy.’ is written about the feeling of being looked down upon, the track encapsulates the emotions of feeling dejected due to factors as trivial as an area of living.”
