The Drood have released their tribally ethereal industrial aural effigy, It Must Needs Wither

The Drood’s most tribal infusion of post-rock, psych, shoegaze and industrial, It Must Needs Wither, launched on January 25th.

The Shakespearean inspired aural effigy is a compassionately grief-stricken composition that hammers home just how much harrow we’ve collectively endured since the pandemic started.

To contrast the raw emotion, the ethereal dream-like layers bring a caressive comfort to the release that allows the listener to confront their mortal coil with a devil-may-care attitude.

The Denver, Colorado band carries similar sonic proclivities to The Legendary Pink Dots (who they have opened for), Hawkwind and Saint Vitus. Yet, it is their experimentalism that is nestled into the core of their sound, along with their inclination to explore themselves, each other and the world through art that really set the Drood apart from the rest.

The Drood said:

“Inspired by Shakespeare’s Othello and dedicated to the memory of all those we know who perished in the last couple of years. All parts were initially recorded in Lafayette, CO in September of 2021 as live, improvised takes. Post-production cleanup and punch-ins were added later but the core of this song is a captured ritual.”

Amelia Vandergast at A&R Factory said:

“I can’t tell you how many lockdown releases I’ve heard in the last two years. What I can tell you is that none of them matched the mournful intensity of It Must Needs Wither.

Beyond the Skinny-Puppy-meets-Radiohead sheer ingenuity, it is the opportunity of sincere mourning that makes this release so unforgettably powerful.”

About the artist

The Denver, Colorado-based duo consists of Nathan Jamiel

(Vocals, Electric Guitar, Keyboards) and Daniel Watts (Drums, Keys).

The electronic-rock outfit’s dark and dream-like sound pulls creatively from the fringes of Post-Rock, Psychedelic, Shoegaze, and Industrial. Since their debut, they have kept to their otherworldly intensity that aims to speak to the soul and allow mysticism, skepticism, inspiration and despair to coalesce.

The band formed in 2012; following a few line-up changes, they released their first full-length LP in 2016. In 2018, The Drood headlined a weekend show at Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox, one of Denver’s most sought-after live venues and released two singles with accompanying music videos for their songs Psychosphere and Charles Mangrove.

In 2019 The Drood opened for the international touring band The Legendary Pink Dots at a sold-out special Halloween show in Denver. In 2020 The Drood was scheduled to join Dead Voices on Air and Orbit Service for a south-western US tour which didn’t go ahead due to the pandemic. The band took a long break to be safe and be with family but managed to wrap up production on their second full-length studio album, Totally Comfortable™. Capping-off 2021, The Drood performed live on Radio 1190 in Boulder, Colorado.
