The Formalist release introspective new single ‘Happenstance’, teasing new album

Formed in 2006, The Formalist has set out on a journey to bring together experimental ambience and the infectiousness of song-based sensibilities. Krieger, in charge of the beats and sampling, and Erik Laroi, taking on vocals and guitar, first met on separate paths for separate bands, and recorded their debut in 2008, though it was 2019 before it was released by Mother West.

Now, the duo return with ‘Happenstance’, a track that brings together the power of gorgeous electronic design with a subtle energised drum groove and otherworldly vocals. Though heavily rooted in electronic atmospheres, there’s a hauntingly human element to the experimentation and poignance featured in the track.

Intricate and introspective, ‘Happenstance’ teases the upcoming release of The Formalist’s second album A Trace Of Yourself. In the project, The Formalist promises to explore the impact of humanity, working through complex relationships with nostalgia and the melancholic nature of the past.
