The Publics unveil anthemic single ‘Gaslighter’

Building up an army of support in their home county of Nottinghamshire, The Publics’ regular live appearances have seen their presence skyrocket, performing headliners at Rescue Rooms and The Bodega and securing spots at YNOT?, Splendour and Camper Calling. The five-piece takes inspiration from UK alternative legends, forming a unique sound that has earned them a label of powerhouses.

Continuing their streak of flying indie anthems, The Publics have now returned with the new single ‘Gaslighter’. Opening the track with a technical drum intro, followed by a soaring riff arrangement that highlights the energy the band brings to the table. As the vocals enter, they echo the sense of grit which adds a sense of emotive betrayal. The riffs turn up the dial, bringing their full-scale energy to a soaring chorus, with the lead vocal crying out, creating an anthemic, stadium-filling atmosphere. Slowing down for just a moment, the track then shoots into a tension-building bridge, before bursting into its second wind, channelling heavier riffs into a screaming final climax.

The band dives into the new single, “Gaslighter tells the story of a young man’s transition into fatherhood as he struggles to leave behind his troublesome former life. We aimed to portray the rift in the central characters focuses through the contrast of soaring choral backing vocals and sharp guitar solos.  The track is designed with festivals in mind, particularly the drum intro which not only sets the tone for the single’s energy but aims to capture the attention of new listeners. We’ve already performed the track live on numerous occasions and received some incredible feedback. We’re really excited to be putting this one out into the world!”
