Discover Transviolet’s new single, ‘Close’

Having created quite a buzz over the past year, Transviolet, a four-piece made up of Sarah McTaggart, Judah McCarthy, Michael Panek and Jon Garcia have just released ‘Close’, giving their mesmerising electro-pop another big boost.

A sparkling tale of young romance, ‘Close’ sizzles with a near-tangible physicality, as McTaggart sings “I want to get close / Want to get you home / Want your hands in my hair / I want you alone” on repeat. The backing synths echo the flickers of excitement and underlying impatience in her voice, following the dazzled dance of the butterflies in the heroine’s stomach.

The frequent comparisons to Lorde are not lost on us. It’s in the whimsical turns McTaggart’s vocals take, as she sings about desire with driving confidence and sincerity, and in a melody that, despite its apparent dreaminess, can’t hide a dark, dramatic streak. There’s an air of sweet sadness that comes with any love, and ‘Close’ gets both the aching melancholy and the sparks that fly, dead-on.
