U2 add extra dates to ‘Joshua Tree’ tour

Following a string of sell-outs, U2 have added an extra UK date to their ‘Joshua Tree’ LP 30th anniversary tour.

The band’s July 8th show at Twickenham stadium, featuring support from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, sold out in less than a day, prompting the band’s promoter John Giddings to schedule an additional date the day after. “The wave of support behind it is incredible,” he said, “the reaction is phenomenal.”

Bono last week talked about his feelings about the seminal record three decades on: “Recently I listened back to The Joshua Tree for the first time in nearly 30 years… it’s quite an opera… A lot of emotions which feel strangely current, love, loss, broken dreams, seeking oblivion, polarisation… all the greats… I’ve sung some of these songs a lot… but never all of them. I’m up for it, if our audience is as excited as we are… it’s gonna be a great night. Especially when we play at home. Croke Park… it’s where the album was born, 30 years ago.”
