Vershon Drops ‘Original’

The gritty visual for ‘Original’ uses strong and bold imagery to show Vershon on the move in Downtown Kingston, getting ready to face anyone that aims to oppose him. The Fanatix produced track compliments the video perfectly, and proves just why Vershon is one of the most highly rated Dancehall artists around. With his highly anticipated ‘Only One’ EP expected to arrive this year, which includes some eye-catching features such as Chip, Trillary Banks, Busy Signal and more, with ‘Original’ Vershon provides fans with an insight to just what they can expect.

Hailing from Kingston, Jamaica’s notorious Cockburn Pen neighborhood, Kemar Vershawn Brown, aka Vershon embraced music from an early age. Inspired by local heroes like Super Cat, and Boney M’s classic 1978 recording of ‘Brown Girl in the Ring’ in particular when he wrote his first song and sang in church at just nine years old. Having previously had one of the anthems of 2016 with ‘Inna Real Life’ – Vershon continued to prove his ability with the addition of hit tracks such as ‘Boom’, ‘Key Fi Mi Life’, most recent release ‘Outside’ and much more. To date, all of his previous releases have surpassed over 11M+ combined streams, a truly amazing feat. It’s clear to see that with this latest track, Vershon is here to stay as he once again illustrates just why many believe he is in a league of his own.

 

‘Only One’, will be Vershon’s first project release on a major label under a new deal with Saint Music/Parlophone. The six track EP masterfully balances his credibility with an international pop sensibility and bridges the gap between London and Jamaica assisted by a carefully curated line-up of guest features including the Chip, Trillary Banks and Busy Signal. Vershon feels good about the next stage of his career, of which this is the first chapter. “It’s a team now, it’s with a big label. It’s well put together. I’m very excited about that”.

Hailing from Kingston, Jamaica’s notorious Cockburn Pen neighbourhood, 29-year-old Kemar Vershawn Brown, aka Vershon, embraced music from an early age. One of three siblings raised by a single mother, he looked up to local heroes like Super Cat as inspiration, and remembers Boney M’s classic 1978 recording of ‘Brown Girl in the Ring’ being a particular influence when he wrote his first song and sang in church at just nine years old.

 

The 2015 hit ‘Inna Real Life’ which would mark his global breakthrough. “After ‘Inna Real Life’, my whole life changed inna real life!” he reflects. “I started to travel every week. I even moved from the ghetto; taking care of my family, taking care of myself.” The success of the track brought him to London for the first time, where he was championed by 1Xtra’s Seani B, and included on the station’s Hot For 2016 list alongside J Hus, Kehlani and Mabel.
