Watch Katy Perry-produced public service announcement

Katy Perry has produced a public service announcement entitled ‘Is History Repeating Itself?’.

The video compares Trump’s call for Muslim registry to Japanese internment camps.

The public service announcement, directed by Aya Tanimura, tells the true story of 89-year-old Japanese-American Haru Kuromiya and the four years she was contained in an internment camp during the outbreak of World War II.

“We were an American farm family now living in an internment camp and our constitutional rights were taken away from us,” Kuromiya says in the video. “It all started with fear and rumours then it bloomed into the registration of Japanese Americans and then labelling with physical tags and then eventually internment.”

The video comes to a powerful end when Kuromiya peels off her mask to reveal Muslim-American actress Hina Khan who says, “Don’t let history repeat itself, don’t normalise hate.”

Sharing the video on Twitter, Perry wrote; “Is history repeating itself…?#DONTNORMALIZEHATE”.
