Wiebke has unveiled a compelling debut album, entitled Space In Between. The artist blurs genre lines, redefining jazz-pop in her own image. The Leipzig-based singer-songwriter fuses neo-jazz, lo-fi soul, indie folk and spoken word, leaving an eight-track that stuns as something fresh in her wake.
Moving freely between stylistic labels, she is delicate and commanding, grounded and driven, but able to create a richness in the soft moments. This makes the climaxes all the more intense. The approach isn’t nostalgic or overtly experimental; it is, however, cinematic. The emotional storytelling is something to behold from an artist still early on in her career.
“I hope that this album can contribute to the healing of our scars,” she shares. “It’s a reminder of how powerful the Space In Between can be. As an architecture of relating to life and people, but also one’s own inner experience. There is intelligence in knowing, as well as in not knowing. There is a power in seeing, as well as in not seeing. And when we can agree to them both we already create space for the in-between. A space to experience life within the dark and the light.”
Gaining traction across Germany and beyond, the new project positions Wiebke, two years after her EP Flow, as a voice vital for the new jazz space as it continues to evolve. Magnetic, minimalist and lyrical, it has a grasp of introspective intimacy that is hard to ignore.
