Will Purdue has been busy working away, moulding his unique and distinctive sound. His unique music has been created by an effective partnership of an ever-present acoustic guitar that works hand in glove with his deep voice that is smooth and smoky on his ballads and rocky and poignant on his upbeat songs.
His latest offering comes in the form of single ‘Missing Piece.’ ‘Missing Piece’ is a country-fuelled bop. The track presents a thick texture that allows his piano melodies and different guitar parts to ebb and flow between each other, creating the perfect canvas for his emotional vocals. His signature voice is once again the stand-out feature on the track, and this paired up with a backing choir and sliding guitars makes ‘Missing Piece’ a catchy yet soul-soothing track.
Speaking about the release: “I have a photo in my mind, with a riverbank just before dark, and that was the setting. The song is about someone stuck there, unable to accept what they’ve lost.”
Elaborating further on the recording process, he also reveals: “It was a beautiful studio, with the sun beating down, full of natural light and surrounded by good friends. We’d actually planned to do a live session, but ended up changing focus, with this being a new one that none of the others had heard. It was one of the easiest, fun sessions ever, with all of us coming just out of lockdown, so there was a gratefulness and just a huge excitement to be getting together to do what we love.”
Based in London but originally from Winchester, UK, Will creates spellbinding melodies that evoke emotion deep down. Describing the music creation process, Will says: “I think everyone needs a way to process emotion, and whether it’s listening or writing, music has always been the most essential thing for me to handle life.” We for one cannot wait to hear what he has in store for us.
