You Do You Boo! Be Your Authentic Self While Vibin To Ivy-Lee

Hitting the Adelaide scene with a fresh approach is Ivy-Lee, an Electronic Pop Singer and Songwriter.

Ivy-Lee was born into a multicultural family which supported her interest to explore and be open-minded.

Her knack for music really started when she was just a little girl jamming and dancing to Atomic Kitten and Hilary Duff.

From that time a star was born, at just 8 years old Ivy-Lee wrote her first song.

High school can be tricky to navigate through, Ivy-Lee put up her shield and pulled it right down post high school.

Ivy-Lee then moved to Sydney and got involved with a Pop Punk band that covered the likes of Paramore and Tonight Alive.

After seeing a Vera Blue gig at the Metro – Ivy-Lee was inspired to write again. She moved back to Adelaide where she focused on her solo music project.

In early March 2022, Ivy-Lee debuted with her stunning electro-pop hit ‘If I Fall’ which quickly gained traction over national and international press.

‘If I Fall’ has made its way over 10,000 streams on Spotify, a successful debut release for an independent artist.

‘You Do You’ is an upbeat and uplifting pop tune with disco references.

“The main line of the song in the pre-chorus (you do you, boo, who cares about what other people think of you) was the first element of the song I came up with whilst driving in my car earlier this year and just couldn’t get it out of my head. I was very interested in a song which had an octave change after listening to ‘Get There Somehow – Madison Watkins’ and thought it was an interesting approach, and brought further impact to the lyrics.

The themes of the song are based on the motto “you do you boo”, which I hoped would empower the listener to ignore traditional societal stigmas about “fitting in” such as the way we present our appearance, money, status, behaviour and so on. The song instead focuses on the value of a person’s life story and individualism. ‘You Do You’ is a loud and uplifting message to live your life the way you want to, focus on yourself – not the opinions people have of you and to keep vibin’.”
