Breaking through the noise with their very own distorted riot, anime-inspired alt-rock duo Zeroz, comprised of Z and Atlast Helicopter, have been pumping out creativity since 2018. Two albums already under their belt and tours across Japan and the UK to boot, the pair are fusing noise-rock with an awareness and digital-era culture.
The latest, ‘Star Kill Lovers’, distils the Zeroz formula into a tight emo-decorated sonic burst. Raspy, almost whispering vocals drift at the top of snarling guitars and relentless percussion.
Undecided between bruising and tender, it’s raw, claustrophobic and dives into themes of isolation and its fight with intimacy. Leaning into abrasion, immediacy and a certain ironic sincerity, ‘Star Kill Lovers’ brings everything we’ve come to expect from Zeroz in a riotous new belter.
They share, “Star Kill Lovers is about the clash of Romance and Modernity. I’ve always been so inspired by the romances I’ve seen in anime, the idea of loving and protecting one person has always appealed to me–especially in the context of adventure; but modern life is about modular existence, infinite acquisition, and irony: all things diametrically opposed to Romance.”
