Σtella releases new track, ‘I’ll Never Be’

For those who delighted in, or totally missed out on, Σtella’s self-titled debut in 2015; the Athenian singer-songwriter has more great work in-store.

I’ll Never Be’ is the second single to be released in anticipation of her sophomore effort, and it’s served in an appropriately reflective, tenderly melancholy end-of-the-year package. Σtella built a reputation in indie circles through her arty-80s-scented electro-pop. A painter who sings, writes, plays the guitar and signs off the arrangements and, partly, the production of her songs; she’s capable of adding multiple textures and mystique to her brand. Canada’s The Organ, who made a splash in the first half of the ‘00s with their sweeping, darkly emotive sounds, is the most recent reference that comes to mind upon hearing I’ll Never Be’.

Σtella’s vocals are mature and contemplative and are capable of transporting you to a million different places. I’ll Never Be’ is particularly prone to daydreaming, playing on our headphones while wandering those unfriendly urban streets in the winter rain. The darkwave scene, both local and imported, has been experiencing a resurgence in the Greek capital, and this track is here to add a mesmerising and swaying chorus to dim-lit gatherings in a minor-key.
