Andrea Bocelli turned down by Donald Trump

Andrea Bocelli will not perform at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration on January 20th, after apparently being turned down by the president-elect.

The New York Times reports that although the 58-year-old tenor was rumoured to be a possible performer last week, following an announcement by 16-year-old opera singer Jackie Evancho that she would sing ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ at the ceremony, this was in fact not going to be the case.

Thomas J. Barrack, Jr., chairman of Trump’s inaugural committee, told a US news channel that although Bocelli had offered to perform, Trump declined.

Confusion over the performing line-up of the ceremony has occurred previously, with Elton John recently debunking a claim by another member of Trump’s team that he would be performing at the ceremony, with his own representatives stating bluntly that “this is incorrect. Elton will not be performing at Trump’s inauguration.”
