Björk has unveiled the striking visuals for her latest single, ‘The Gate‘, which was released last week.
The video was created with longtime collaborator Andrew Thomas Huang and Gucci designer, Alessandro Michele. The visuals begin with Björk playing a flute outside in a tranquil dream-like setting before being taken over by a number of hypnotising and hallucinogenic designs. Check out the video below.
Describing the singer’s new album, Huang issued a statement saying: “The doorway lies within the wound from Vulnicura, which now appears transformed into a prismatic portal channeled between the chests of two lovers. Not lovers in the quotidian romantic sense, but in a broader cosmological way. As a throughway into Bjork’s new album, ‘The Gate’ is a declaration of hope sung by a woman refracted and re-formed into a luminous whole.”
‘The Gate‘ is the first single from the Icelandic singer’s forthcoming record which she has described as her “Tinder album“ explaining “It’s about that search (for utopia) – and about being in love. Spending time with a person you enjoy on every level is obviously utopia, you know? I mean, it’s real. It’s when the dream becomes real.” Björk released her last full length record, Vulnicura, back in 2015.
