Capo Corleone – Thank Myself EP Review

Hip-hop is a genre that rewards individuality, putting your personality into your music is practically key to any Hip-hop artist’s success. It’s a big part of why features are a big deal in the genre, because a feature means you’re allowing someone else to bring not just their bars, but their personality into your song. For Capo Corleone, putting his personality and self into his music is just how he makes music, but with his new EP, “Thank Myself,” he’s looking to try something new.

“Thank Myself” is fascinating in the world of music, because it’s a collaboration with Polish jazz musician Kuba Więcek. This is an anomaly in Hip-hop, where hard hitting beats and smooth synths tend to be the instruments of choice. It’s a bold choice, but the question is, how does the EP hold up under scrutiny, and does this surprising collaboration pay off for the EP’s sound?

Having listened to the entire EP, we can confidently say that it doesn’t just work, but it works phenomenally well. There’s so much to love with this EP, from its experimental sound to the sheer bars that Capo Corleone drops. It’s rewarding on first listen, and as you dissect it further on repeat listens, you peel back the layers to find so much to appreciate in its production and arrangements.

It’s so incredibly clean, catchy and pleasant to listen to, and Kuba Więcek gets huge props for his work here. He instills every moment of the EP, every single song, with boatloads of emotion that really drive the point home. This is most noticeable on songs like “Nostradamus” and “Fly,” both of which are phenomenally well written. The sheer quality this project radiates is impressive, and a big part of that is in its instrumentals.

Of course, the heart of the album lies in Capo Corleone’s writing and bars, and in that regard, the EP also shines through in a big way. Perhaps the biggest highlight of his talent writing lyrics is in “Home,” a tour de force of emotion that’s delivered with the sincerity it needs for the impact to land. It’s a fantastic example of Capo Corleone’s ability, and the rest of the EP carries this same energy all throughout.

Overall, there’s a lot to love when it comes to Capo Corleone’s “Thank Myself.” As a work within the Hip-hop genre, it’s a surprisingly fresh and innovative serving, one that effortlessly stands out within its genre. The two artists behind the art put their huge amounts of effort into this project, and it shows with every single verse and passage of the EP. It gets a solid commendation from us!
