Chief Keef issues video tribute to Chicago murder victims in ‘Chiraq’

Chief Keef, who escaped Chicago gang life when Kanye West first propelled the then-teenager into the Billboard top ten in 2012, dropped his stand out track ‘Chiraq’ back in the summer. Since then, it’s amassed 600,000 plays on one post alone and over two million streams in total. Watch the video below.

The track is a tribute to Chicago homicide victims and features the names of every person killed through violence in Keef’s home city of Chicago this year.

“Chiraq is a testimony to the victims of violence. It has been a very tough summer for London and Chicago, this video was made with a powerful and positive message in mind.”

“Chiraq” is a nickname given to Chicago because of its violent history and reputation as one of the most dangerous cities in America.

After a horrendous summer of violence, linked to drill music gangs, on both sides of the Atlantic, the song has an important message.

The single, which was written by Daniel Spiller and Justin Stoneman, has been released to raise funds for the Stop the Violence Now campaign which aims to target vulnerable young people. “When I read comments from people who have lost loved ones it means a great deal to me,” Chief Keef told the Daily Mail.

He continued: “Relatives seeing the testimony to them in the video will hopefully appreciate that these people are never ever forgotten.”

“Chiraq was written for them, the music is a tribute to the fallen and forgotten in my beloved Chicago.”
