Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Audioslave dies age 52

The singer had played a 20-song set with Soundgarden the night before.

Singer Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Audioslave has died at the age of 52. Brian Bumbery, Cornell’s representative, announced that he had passed away 17th May. The cause of death is still undetermined with Bumbery saying his death was “sudden and unexpected“, adding that his family have asked for privacy.

Friends and fellow musicians have been paying their respects, including Red Hot Chilli Peppers bassist Dave Navarro, Jimmy Page, and Sir Elton John.

Cornell was well known as the frontman of grunge band Soundgarden between 1984 and 1997, reuniting in 2010. Their 1994 album, Superunkown, reached number one in the US.

 
He also fronted Audioslave between 2002 and 2006. The singer wrote the theme for Casino Royal in 2006 which went on to become a Top Ten Hit.
