Daughter have scored the upcoming video game Life Is Strange: Before The Storm

With two much-loved albums already under their belts, and a path seemingly set out for them to become mainstays of the UK indie scene, it comes as something of a surprise that Daughter have announced that their next project will be a video game score. Today the trio have announced a partnership with video game creators Square Enix (who have released the Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy series) to score the much anticipated new game Life Is Strange: Before The Storm; a prequel to their acclaimed game Life Is Strange.

Daughter’s score for the game will be released as a standalone album entitled Music From Before The Storm. Any ideas that they would change their style to fit the video game are dashed upon hearing lead single ‘Burn It Down‘, which follows the same emotionally epic indie style that they’ve become known for. Listen below.

The band has said of the opportunity “We are so proud to have written the soundtrack for Life Is Strange: Before The Storm. It was our first experience working on an original soundtrack, and we are so honoured to have been given the opportunity to work with the team. We loved the story on first read as it centres around realistic female lead characters who are emotional, intelligent, sensitive and badass in equal measure. I think the characters themselves have really inspired the soundscapes we have created. It was a pleasure to be involved.”

Music From Before The Storm will be released through Daughter’s usual label 4AD on 1st September.
