Ed Sheeran’s 2018 tour grossed $432m, making a new world record

Ed Sheeran’s Divide tour was the highest-grossing of 2018, making $432.4m (£342m) in ticket sales.

The massive sum was made over the sale of 4.86m tickets and is an all-time record for concert tickets sold in a single calendar year.

Previously, the record was held by U2 for their 2017 Joshua Tree tour, which made $316m – their 2009-2011 360 tour remains the highest-grossing of all time, totaling a staggering  $736m.

The figures, released by box office monitor Pollstar, showed that that the worldwide concert industry saw a record-setting $10.4bn spent over the last 12 months.

Close on the heels of Sheeran was Taylor Swift, who took second place with $345m from 2.88m tickets sold on her Reputation tour.

Sheeran and Swift alone made up 14% of the top 100 tours revenues.

In third place were Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s collaborative On the Run II tour, which generated $254m from 2.16m tickets.

The rest of the Top 10 were as follows: Pink, Bruno Mars, the Eagles, Justin Timberlake, Roger Waters, U2 and the Rolling Stones.
