Father John Misty interviewed by Elton John about new album

The phone interview between the pair was aired on Beats 1.

Elton John phoned Father John Misty, real name Josh Tillman, during his Rocket Hour show to speak about the recording of Tillman‘s new album, Pure Comedy.

The pair mostly spoke about the recording techniques behind the album as on Pure Comedy the singer-songwriter used analogue recording. Tillman described his first two albums as “Pro Tools Frankensteins“. Speaking about analogue recording, Elton John said “What you end up with is space. I’m afraid with Pro Tools you’re always tempted to put everything but the kitchen sink on things.

Pure Comedy, is scheduled for release on 7th April this year. Father John Misty has already released four singles from the album – ‘Pure Comedy‘, ‘Two Wildly Different Perspectives‘, ‘Ballad of the Dying Man‘, and ‘Total Entertainment Forever‘. The latter single was released after being performed on Saturday Night Live. The song gained a lot of attention as it starts with the lyrics “Bedding Taylor Swift / Every night inside the Oculus Rift“.

He has also recently posted three new songs which will not appear on the upcoming album. The songs are called ‘Generic Pop Song #3‘, ‘Generic Pop Song #9, and ‘Generic Pop Song #16‘.
