Happy birthday to Kasabian’s Serge Pizzorno

Kasabian guitarist and creative lynchpin Serge Pizzorno turns 36 today.

Born in Newton Abbot, Devon, to parents of Italian descent, Pizzorno grew up in Leicester where he originally harboured dreams of being a professional footballer. After meeting fellow band members Tom Meighan and Chris Edwards at Countesthorpe Community College, he formed Kasabian as Saracuse in 1997. The band changed their name to the Armenian-influenced Kasabian at former guitarist Chris Karloff’s suggestion after signing to BMG.

Kasabian released their eponymous debut album in September 2004 and have enjoyed a string of hits including ‘Club Foot’, ‘Shoot The Runner’, ‘Processed Beats’ and ‘Empire’. Pizzorno is the band’s principle songwriter.

Outside of Kasabian, he is also a member of Loose Tapestries with The Mighty Boosh’s Noel Fielding. He is married to long-term partner Amy White, with whom he has two sons, Ennio and Lucio. Still an avid football fan, he supports both Leicester City and Genoa CFC.
