IDLES will release a special vinyl pressing of their album with Joe Talbot’s mother’s ashes in

Earlier this year, Bristol post-punks IDLES released their superb debut album Brutalism, but if you haven’t heard or bought it yet, then it turns out to have been a good move. There’s a very special edition coming at the end of this month that you might prefer.

Singer Joe Talbot‘s mother sadly recently passed away after succumbing to illness. In her life she was always a huge supporter of her son’s musical interests and had unquantifiable influence upon IDLES’ music (one of the highlights of their album is called ‘Mother’, of course). As a tribute to this figure, the band will release a limited run of 100 vinyl copies of Brutalism specially pressed to include a scattering of ashes from Joe’s “old dear.”

In the statement announcing the special release on Facebook, IDLES said:

“Our music has saved us in many ways.

My old dear didn’t have the luxury of finding something that could save her; I’ve had her ashes pressed into 100 vinyl to symbolise just how important she was to this album, to this band and of course to me and my drive to exist in the most loving and honest me.

We strive to make music that invigorates people to express themselves freely without prejudice or mockery. Now you can see that we’ve put everything into our art so that maybe you can too. Don’t go gentle.

All is love.”

The special pressing of Brutalism will be available to order from Market Cartel from 30th October.
