Jorja Smith crowned BRITs Critics’ Choice Award winner for 2018

Jorja Smith has been announced as the winner of the 2018 BRITs Critic’s Choice Award after competing against Mabel and Stefflon Don.

The award, which went to Rag ‘n’ Bone Man last year,  recognises “the future stars of British recording talent”. Previous winners of the title include Adele (2008),  Emeli Sandé (2012) and Sam Smith (2014).

The young British singer has had an extraordinary year featuring on Drake‘s More Life record, released an EP of her own titled Project 11, and dropped a number of highly acclaimed singles. Listen to her hit track with UK producer Preditah below.

I cannot believe it,” she said describing the honour “it’s been an unforgettable 2017 during which I’ve fulfilled so many of my dreams and this is such a special way to end the year… and to be part of an all-female shortlist alongside Mabel and Stefflon Don, who’ve both had incredible 2017s, makes it even better!

Speaking about the ‘On My Mind‘ singer, the Brits chairman Jason Iley says: “Jorja Smith has a huge future ahead of her and looks set to follow in the footsteps of the most successful past Critics’ Choice winners.

The official ceremony for the Brit Awards will take place at London’s O2 Arena on 21st February 2018.
