Katy Perry announced as judge for American Idol reboot

The singer will be a judge on the reboot of US talent show American Idol.

The show was cancelled in April 2016 but is now making a comeback with Katy Perry on the judging panel.

Taking to Twitter, Perry announced herself as a judge in a series of tweets.

In a statement, the singer said: “I am honoured and thrilled to be the first judge bringing back the ‘American Idol’ tradition of making dreams come true for incredible talents with authentic personalities and real stories.

I’m always listening to new music, and love discovering diamonds in the rough, from mentoring young artists on my label, or highlighting new artists on my tours, I want to bring it back to the music.

Channing Dungey, president of ABC, added: “We are thrilled to be ushering in this new era of American Idol with Katy leading the charge. Her incredible accolades speak for themselves. We are so lucky to have this strong and talented woman help inspire and guide the next crop of artists as they pursue their dreams.

Perry is set to release her new album Witness on 9th June. Two singles, ‘Chained To The Rhythm‘ featuring Skip Marley and ‘Bon Appétit‘ featuring Migos, have already been released from what will be her fifth studio album.
