Lady Gaga opens up about PTSD and mental trauma

Last month, during a visit to an LGBT homeless shelter for the young, Lady Gaga revealed that she suffers with mental illness. The 30-year-old singer then confirmed during a TV interview about the visit she has long time struggled with mental health Issues. “I suffer from a mental illness – I suffer from PTSD. I’ve never told anyone that before.”

Speaking for the first time two years ago about rape Gaga revealed that her mental health issues stem from a darker time in her life where she was sexually assaulted at the age of 19. She also confessed that she blamed herself for the incident and that she didn’t tell anyone about the traumatic event for seven years.

Gaga mentioned to the teens at the New York shelter that she uses meditation to “calm down” and stay relaxed. The singer who promotes positivity and kindness over hate, also credited the support she received during the difficult time saying “The kindness that’s been shown to me, by doctors as well as my family and my friends, it’s really saved my life”. Searching for ways to heal herself Lady Gaga promotes her compassionate message expressing that she found “kindness is the best way.”
