New documentary ‘Teenage Superstars’ features Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream and more

A new documentary about Scottish independent music has been announced.

‘Teenage Superstars’ focuses on Glasgow in the ’80s and includes interviews with some of the people behind Creation Records, Teenage Fanclub, BMX Bandits, the Jesus and Mary Chain, and Primal Scream.

The film is the follow-up to 2015’s The Big Gold Dream, a documentary tracking Scottish indie labels Fast Product and Postcard Records, and how they contributed to the rise of bands like Orange Juice, The Jesus & Mary Chain, and Teenage Fanclub. It will be the second feature film in the ‘Sound of Young Scotland’ story.

This is a film that shows people what they can achieve when they break the rules,” director Grant McPhee said in a press release. To complete the project, the film’s creators have launched a crowd funding campaign. They seek £20,000 or over $25,000. Besides posters, mugs, and other memorability, a donation of £1250 will earn backers an associate producer credit.
