Pegasus (Metalcore band from France!) discuss EPIC new EP “Fairy Tale”!

 Pegasus

Who is answering the questions?

The whole band !

How did Pegasus originally form?

Our drummer and our singer started the band with guys we already knew or played with. After some changes, the lineup settled with people who met through the band for some or knew each other before

How did you get to the band name Pegasus, and what does it mean to you?

Continents is band which inspired us a lot these last years. Their song “Pegasus, Pegasus” is a call for freedom, to free yourself from your chains and live without drowning. It makes you understand that when really you want something you have to go for it It’s the perfect representation of Pegasus, and a state of mind which fits us.

For an unfamiliar reader, how would you describe the sound of Pegasus?

We all have different influences. The bigger part of our music is metalcore, and we like to complete this with atmospheric parts or more technical riffs that can be defined as djent or prog!

Touring wise, what are you getting up to this year?

We have a european tour planned for June. We are pretty excited about that ! We also play gigs all along the year in our area and further places too. We want to play as much as possible to promote our music.

Can you give us a couple of personal touring highlights since your formation?

For the release of Fairy Tale, we played in a deconsecrated church ! It was awesome to play in this kind of place. It’s not a church anymore, but the spirit is still the same and it was an amazing experience.

How does a song normally come together for Pegasus?

Our guitarists first compose the song. Then we all add our personal touch. We change some parts if it doesn’t suit everyone, we add some little details to make it more brutal, catchy or atmospheric.. The biggest part is done by the guitarists, but we all work on it. Of course we are inspired by bands we like a lot, but we are careful not to copy them.

Artwork

What can you tell us about the themes & influences behind your upcoming EP ‘Fairy Tale’?

Events of the past and future inspire us a lot. Our society is fucked up, many things are faked or hidden on different levels. That’s what I want to say through my lyrics. In our Ep, the point is to show the strengths and weaknesses of people through a Fairy Tale metaphor

What can you tell us about the writing & recording process for this EP?

We finished composing in June 2015. We recorded the drums parts in July at the Boss Hog Studio, as we did not want a digital drum song and prefered it natural. Then we recorded the guitars, the bass and additional parts at home. Our guitarists have really good material and know how to use it very well! We worked with Harry from Efficient Records for the mixing and mastering. He also helped us recording the vocals. It took him quite some time, we made the best of his capacities! And the results are here, and we are pretty satisfied !

How did you get to the title ‘Fairy Tale’, and what does it mean to you?

We tried to denounce how some things in our society are hidden or kept secret from the masses, how only the good sides of things are shown. The Fairy Tale in our songs is the part made for the masses. A story made to be beautiful without mentioning the hard truth.

How would you say the sound of Pegasus has grown/changed since you first started out?

Our style evolved with our line up. At the beginning, Pegasus was basic metalcore. With the arrival of new people the band stabilized itself and our style has become more complex, more complete. The band is more solid, more mature and we can feel it in our music.

Also, how did the EP artwork for ‘Fairy Tale’ come together, and what does it mean to you?

The artwork is linked to the lyrics and the title. The word ’Fairy Tale’ first evokes something beautiful but every story hides a hard truth, and the artwork takes this hard truth to the foreground.

What do you want ‘Fairy Tale’ to do for the representation of Pegasus?

We want Fairy Tale to be heard by a lot of people. We want to play it as often as possible, in many places. This is our first EP and we want to prepare the future of the band with it, touching the biggest amount of people possible. We hope it will be well received by the public. We hope it will make the band bigger and bring us lot of experiences !

What is the music scene like to be a part of in Arras, France?

France is not the best country to do this kind of music, it’s not recognized and the public is scarce. In our area, it’s often hard to find good venues to play. There are many bands in many different styles, but places are rare. The biggest gigs are often in Paris or in Belgium and most of the gigs are with local bands only. Despite this, we can play from time to time and we have really good times!

What sets you apart from other upcoming bands?

We are really dedicated to our music and our goals. We do our best to reach them, in every way possible. We just compose the music as we feel it, we don’t particularly want to be different or like any others bands, upcoming or established. 16) What else can we expect to see from Pegasus in 2016? Many more gigs and fun ! We are already considering our next album and how we can make our music evolve. And maybe some videos !
