A decade after it’s release, 2009 hit ‘Lisztomania’ has received a 192-percent increase from both audio and visual on-demand streams, according to Nielsen Music.
The surge in popularity took place in just a week (January 3rd-10th), and is the result of a newly-surfaced video which sees congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez dancing to to Phoenix’s catchy tune in college.
After the video went viral, garnering over 4 million views, ‘Lisztomania’ itself jumped from 107 million streams on the week ending January 3rd to 3.13 million in the week ending January 10th.
There was also an increase in sales, with the song receiving 1,000 downloads, a 320 percent increase from the week prior.
The track has dominated visual streaming, too: YouTube reported that the viral video saw the track enter the US Top Songs chart for the first time, sitting pretty at #54.
An anonymous Twitter account originally circulated the 2010 video of Ocasio-Cortez in an attempt to smear the newly-elected Democratic Representative.
Instead, Ocasio-Cortez found the funny side in the situation, uploading a video in response of her dancing to DJ Maze’s ‘America’s Movie Show 2’ in front of her brand new office.

The clip, which pays homage to the 1985 cult-classic, The Breakfast Club, saw the 29-year-old congress women garner online support from the film’s original cast members Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy.
That's it, Alexandria you're in the club! ❤️❤️ @allysheedy1 #AlexandriaOcasioCortez #DemsTakeTheHouse

Indie-rockers Phoenix also showed their support of the politician, reposting the original clip with the caption: “Congratulations on being the youngest woman ever being elected to Congress.”

‘Lisztomania’ was the lead single and opening track of the French rock band’s fourth studio album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.
