Over the past couple of decades, award-winning music school Point Blank has been shaping the next generation of musicians and artists in their campuses in London, Los Angeles, Ibiza, Mumbai and Hangzhou, as well as extensive online courses. IMS College – Malta, organised by the International Music Summit (IMS) marked one of the Point Blank’s many inclusions in worldwide events, where Head of Curriculum Ski Oakenfull deconstructed the late Avicii’s hit-song “SOS” featuring Aloe Blacc.
Throughout the 25-minute video, that is highly valuable for any producer and songwriter, Ski Oakenfull deconstructs the hit using Ableton Push 2, Ableton Live and a keyboard, first laying down the different drum patterns heard in the song. Afterwards, he analyzes the chord progressions in “SOS” and displays how the song interpolates “No Scrubs” by TLC, creating an engaging mashup.
