The Kinks ‘Sunny Afternoon, The Very Best Of’ Album Review

Compilation albums are often overlooked as just another money making scheme conjured up by record labels to squeeze the last remaining pennies out of decrepit rockstars. ‘Sunny Afternoon’ however does not fall into this mold.

This fantastic 2-disc album, based on the brilliant West End play ‘Sunny Afternoon’ is an utter triumph and an absolute essential for an Kinks fan. With hits such as ‘Lola’, ‘Waterloo Sunset’ and ‘You Really Got Me’ interspersed with golden oldies ‘Party Line’ and ‘Days’, this album has something for everybody.

The Kinks, fronted by the Davies brothers Ray and Dave came to provide the soundtrack of a generation. The Swinging Sixties was never more indebted to a band as much as it was to the Kinks.

‘Sunny Afternoon’ is out now.
