Twitter hackers target Bob Dylan and Sony Music

The official Twitter accounts of Bob Dylan and Sony Music Entertainment were hacked yesterday.

Britney Spears’ apparent death was the focus of the hacking, with “RIP @britneyspears #RIPBritney” Tweeted from the Sony Music Global account, followed by “Britney spears is dead by accident – we will tell you more soon #RIPBritney”. A kindred Tweet was later sent out from Bob Dylan’s account.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, hacker group OurMine later took responsibility for compromising the accounts. OurMine has targeted several high-profile accounts in the past year, including Marvel and Netflix.

Spears’ representatives confirmed to CNN that the singer is alive and well, and that the Tweets were a hoax.

This is not the first time Sony has been hacked, with its 2014 cyber-attack being one of the most significant in corporate history.
