Watch Flying Lotus’ new unsettling short film Skinflick

Flying Lotus has released a new short film titled Skinflick directed and scored by himself under his alias, steve.

The new short which dropped via Nowness is described as an ode to his friend “Bubble BoyBob Heslip. The film features a number of close up shots of Heslip’s skin which create the illusion of an otherworldly terrain. The mysterious sounding beat in the background, produced by FlyLo, plays as Bobby and Loana Heslip’s hands begin to explore the fleshy lumps on his body. Flying Lotus, real name Steven Ellison, first met Bobby who suffers from the skin condition and tumour disorder Neurofibromatosis type 1. whilst shooting his directorial debut KUSO. Describing the first time he met Bobby in a press release, Ellison says: “He is a lovely man and I wanted to make a film that would honor the beauty of his unique condition.

The gory KUSO, which was helmed “guaranteed to melt minds”, was released earlier this year and saw a number of viewers walking out of the Sundance Film Festival screening due to its graphic content.
