The National have covered Tom Petty‘s ‘Damaged by Love’, paying tribute to the iconic rock star who passed away earlier this week (2nd October).
Bryce Dessner, the band’s guitarist, shared a video to his Instagram account which shows himself and Matt Berninger, The National’s frontman, covering the Petty classic. ‘Damaged by Love‘ appeared on the the singer’s 2006 solo album Highway Companion. Watch The National duo’s rendition below.

Petty was found in his Malibu home unconscious and not breathing on Sunday night (1st October) and was rushed to the hospital. The singer’s condition was thought to be “critical” and he was placed on life support before he passed. Listen to the 5 greatest Tom Petty songs of all time here.
