Who is answering the questions?

That would be me – Tiaday the vocalist!

Can you tell us about the formation of The World Over?

NO! lol yes, we’d love to. The World Over was created in 2013 by founders Xavier Moreux, Ryan Knecht, Anthony Dellaripa, Eric Gledhill and myself who had all moved to Los Angeles from around the world with the mutual goal to make music. Donovan Allen (on bass) later joined us in 2015 when we released our single and music video for “EULOGY”. Together we conceptualized a band that could represent many different cultures and promote messages of hope and empowerment!

How did you get to the band name The World Over, and what does it mean to you?

Our original lineup had consisted of band members from all around the world so we really wanted to have a name that could represent our diverse cultures. The World Over just felt right and even though our most diverse members couldn’t remain in the band, it still holds true to us in other ways and continuity is important. We will take The World Over one fan at a time!

To an unfamiliar reader, how would you describe your sound?

Our newest record, “MOUNTAINS”, that we released this week (available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and more) would have to be under the blanket term of “rock” because it isn’t quite post-hardcore like we used to be. We hope to break some of the boundaries of this genre a little more and reach a broader spectrum of listeners. And I think what makes us unique is the big difference between our last record, “Rampart District” and our new record. You can get both albums here: https://itunes.apple.com/album/id1146557304

What bands have influenced you over the years, and why?

Personally, P!nk has been one of my idols since I can remember. I’ve always loved her confident rock don’t give a f*ck attitude and her incredible raspy tone and range. I’ve always strived for that. Although she is not a screamer, a lot of bands I grew up listening to would have screaming here and there in their songs. I had a lot of rage growing up so I started to scream too and here I am now lol. As for Ryan, his main influences come from many different genres and worlds of music such as Periphery to even Kimbra or Guthrie Govan. Skrillex has influenced Donovan because of his rise of fame and his ambition as an artist.

How did you get to the album title ‘Mountains’, and what does it mean to you?

We named our new album, “MOUNTAINS”, because it references to our hardships and obstacles we’ve had to overcome through the period of time between this release and our last album as well as how we plan to move mountains with this record!

Can you elaborate on some of the main themes and influences that run throughout ‘Mountains’?

I think that a theme in our songs musically would have to be the “southern rock” sound in the guitar melodies but also the “less is more” trait from Deftones. A lot of inspiration for my lyrics is from my perspective on life and my experiences like “Liberosis” and “Swervewolf”. But then there are some songs like “Invisible” and “Traitor” that are just storytelling. There isn’t a particular theme that I follow but I always end my lyrics with a message of hope and empowerment instead of complaining without some sort of conclusion like some songs out there and I plan to keep it that way.

What can you tell us about the recording process for ‘Mountains’?

We did a looot of the pre-production here in Los Angeles recording demos at Ryan’s studio more than most bands do before heading into the studio. After we collected the demos we knew we definitely wanted on the album, we flew to Canada to work with Siegfried Meier (Kitty, DMX) at Beach Road Studios which was an amazing experience to have as a band. He has an amazing studio and is a great producer to work with!

What song means the most to you from ‘Mountains’ at the moment, and why?

Personally it would have to be “Liberosis” because the overall meaning to that song is that no matter what you’re going through, music will always be there so turn that sh*t up!!

What songs are you really enjoying playing live from ‘Mountains’ at the moment, and why?

“Traitor” is definitely a fun one. We go hard haha. It’s high energy, well paced and we don’t get tired of it. Donovan loves playing “Let Go” the most personally.

What was the hardest part about putting ‘Mountains’ together for you guys, and why?

The hardest part would have to have been before we started writing it. It took us a good amount of time to figure out exactly what direction we wanted to go in and finding a sound we all could agree on.

What can you tell us about your latest single?

“EULOGY” was our last single that we released and that was recorded at Rockernaut Studios with Omar Espinosa and Bryan Dourado. We also released a music video for it that you can check out here!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSIm-6Kh5QU

How did the artwork for ‘Mountains’ come together, and what does it mean to you?

An artist who goes by “Halcyon” did all the artwork. She had done some work for friends of ours so that’s how we got connected with her. We think it accurately represents how we wanted the cover to turn out and she executed our ideas well.

Touring wise, can you give us a couple of personal highlights from your time on the road?

We haven’t toured yet, but we plan to in the start of the new year!

How would you say the sound of The World Over has grown/progressed over the years?

Like we mentioned above, there’s definitely a noticeable difference in our sound if you compare “Rampart District” to “MOUNTAINS” and we actively worked on striving to be more accessible as a band and create a sound we could thoroughly enjoy playing years to come. I think we’ve achieved that goal in “MOUNTAINS”.

What sets you apart from any other band out there right now?

We are a 3 piece female-fronted rock band and have a unique and accessible/marketable sound. With catchy and memorable melodies and lyrics that are relatable as well as meaningful, we also have the drive and motivation to reach our goals and I think that already sets us apart.

What is the music scene like in Los Angeles?

A lot of pay-to-play shows, but the music is great and there are loads of venues!
