YouTube announces new music streaming service

YouTube has announced that it will be launching a new music streaming service called YouTube Music.

The new platform is set to arrive on 22nd May and subscriptions will be priced at $9.99 per month, a statement from the company’s official blog revealed. YouTube Music will initially launch in US, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea before becoming available in 14 other countries, including the United Kingdom.

It’s described as “a new music streaming service made for music with the magic of YouTube: making the world of music easier to explore and more personalized than ever,” and promises to deliver “official songs, albums, thousands of playlists and artist radio plus YouTube’s tremendous catalog of remixes, live performances, covers and music videos that you can’t find anywhere else.

Google Play Music will eventually be discontinued following its launch in 2011.
