Music Premiere: Doug Loch Unleashes a Cinematic Club Storm with New Single ‘Dark Storm’

Music Crowns is thrilled to premiere Dark Storm, the stunning new single from Australian-based Scottish producer and DJ Doug Loch. A bold step into deeper, darker sonic territory, Dark Storm is a powerful blend of progressive house and melodic techno—equal parts emotional release and dancefloor firepower.

Written in a spontaneous burst of inspiration during a late-night class at Sydney’s renowned Liveschool, the main riff of Dark Storm emerges with a hypnotic chord progression that glides between minor and major tonalities. That musical push and pull becomes the emotional engine of the track, creating a moody yet uplifting vibe that hits both the heart and the hips. Speaking on the creative process, Loch says, “The chords just came to me through my fingers. I knew immediately I had something special.”

But Dark Storm doesn’t stop at captivating melodies. Loch builds the track around a staccato piano arpeggio and introduces one of his most personal production touches yet: a field recording of a crashing wave, captured on his phone and used as a rising crescendo before the drop. The soundscape feels alive—cinematic, textural, and bursting with intention.

The single also arrives with a high-calibre remix from Australian electronic music legend Danny Bonnici, offering a deeper, club-driven take that’s already gained international support. None other than Hernan Cattaneo recently dropped it during a massive set, with live footage surfacing on Loch’s own Instagram.

Released via Loch’s independent label People Like Us Music—which also powers a Sydney-based event series—Dark Storm is more than just a song. It’s a mission statement from a rising artist whose sound is too expansive for genre boxes. With bookings this year at Give! Festival (UK) and a Sydney room takeover supporting Claptone in November, Doug Loch is stepping into the global spotlight—and Dark Storm is the lightning bolt that marks his arrival.
